The New Mercedes E Class On The Spotlight

March 16th, 2010 Jepan Mihai No comments

Mercedes mid-level E-Class is not only their best selling model, it’s also one of my favorite prestige cars. The E350 and E550 saloons have been redesigned for 2010, complete with new styling and a host of new electronic gadgets. All very impressive but I wanted to see if the E-Class was still the same.

At First Glance

I don’t like change. So I was not happy when Mercedes announced that the new E-Class was coming for 2010.

See, I don’t just like the E-Class – I love the E-Class. To me, the E Class was the medicine for rush hour traffic: A road going smooth piece of machinery that’s like sitting in your favorite armchair. Just getting into an E Class relaxes one of all the stresses of the day.

Like the old E, the new E’s cabin is a wood-trimmed lined with soft, high-quality plastics. Genuine leather comes standard on the E550. The transmission stick has moved to the steering column, freeing space for two cup holders, a big center armrest, and the dial controller that runs many of the car’s functions, including navigation, stereo and Blue tooth speakerphone.

The E provides plenty of room up front and quite a bit in the back, although rear legroom gets tight if the front seats are adjusted all the way back. Booth capacity is 15.9 cubic feet; you can expand that, but only if you pay extra for a split fold rear seat. Why Mercedes charges extra for this feature, when most cars have it for free, is beyond me.

The 2010 E has a host of new gadgets, including Attention Assist, somehow deduces from steering inputs if the driver is falling asleep and sounds an alarm. Options include a night vision camera that highlights pedestrians (costs extra) and a parking assist system that tells you when to turn the steering wheel (costs extra) Some cars have an optional drivers seat with active air bladders. The massage function is nice, but I’d probably save the extra cost and settle for the standard 14 way power seat.

On the Road

Drive the V6-powered E350 saloon, I can’t see anyone needing any more power than its 268 horsepower engine delivers. For those people who live outside of my imagination, the E550 offers a 382 hp 5.5 liter V8 a beautiful engine that delivers its power smoothly and gently, unless you floor the accelerator, in which case it propels you down the road at a rate of knots. The E550 also comes with air springs, which produce an impossible blend of sharp handling and a smooth ride.

Still the one

Having finished my test I conclude that the new E-Class may have new styling and lots of new gadgets, but it’s still the same smooth piece of machinery it always has been. And it’s still the standard by which I judge prestige saloons.

As is the case with most cars, the E-Class isn’t the best pick for everyone. While the lower prices are a nice surprise, the E class still isn’t cheap, especially once you start adding in options.

March 15th, 2010 John Rogers No comments

When you own a car there are many things that you have to think about. Although all are important in making sure the car is legal, one of the most important things you need to check regularly are the car brakes as if they were to fail on you it could mean you are involved in an unnecessary accident causing harm to not only you and your passengers but others on the road too. This is why many look to brake repair Broomfield to keep them safe from harm.

If you have found that your brakes are not as respondent as they once were it is definitely time for action. Many of the repair companies are happy to come out to do repairs which means you dont need to drive without safely having them checked out or repaired if necessary. Check to see if you can access them day and night as this would save you risking the life of you and others.

Having to keep your car off the road due to a failed MOT is something you want to avoid at all costs and one of the vital things you need to make sure are working are your breaks. Getting it done before your car goes through this test will mean you can get straight on the road.

Making sure you take care of any repairs as soon as possible will mean that you can drive with peace of mind and also save yourself money in the long run.

You should check your break pads regularly as over time they can wear. Although you will be told they will last for a certain amount of miles you should not take this for granted as driving as well as environmental factors can affect their estimated life span.

SO that you are able to check them you need basic knowledge of where they are located and this is behind the front wheels. Not all vehicles will need the wheels taking off so that you can examine the brakes so check your manual.

They should be checked for efficiency and signs of damage at least twice each year and of course when the car has been standing a long time.

Problems can occur with the discs which should look healthy, shiny and pretty much the same all over. You dont need to be alarmed by slight marks as this is normal but any signs of corrosion and denting that mean they have changed shape should be dealt with as soon as possible.

The other parts of the brakes you can look at are brake pads. They should be at over 1/8th of an inch in thickness. Anything under this means that they are worn and could mean that your brakes are not as responsive.

To avoid making these mistakes and ensuring you are literally on the right track, it is useful to speak to the local police. They can advise you which tracks are open and if your car is suitable. The Best Way To Purchase A Lawn Tractor

March 1st, 2010 Eddie Simms No comments

Lawn tractors are generally tiny tractors intended for farm work up to 2 acres. There are a number of attachments to the tractor, which can reduce your manual work quite considerably. This can help you employ your available time effectively in maintaining your garden in trim condition all year round. Lawn tractors are flexible items of kit. They can do lots of roles such as cutting, ploughing, lawn rolling, lamp post hole digging, and plenty of other roles that need to be done around the farm or home.

These roles are made possible through their power take off shaft. This makes lawn tractors one of the gardener’s very best buddies.

Purchasing a lawn tractor is much like buying an auto. The cost of a second user model is much less even if there is little more wear than being driven out from the show room floor.

Consider the tractor you are buying particularly rigorously. It is usually counseled that you try the tractor for yourself and get an idea about the time needed in attaching and detaching the various accessories. Test-drive the tractor, and try and get a feel of getting out and in of tractor. Just taking it for a test spin, doesn’t mean that you have to purchase it there and then. Resist the pressure, and consider your options carefully.

The basic model available is a Bolen 762F76, and the John Deere Spin-Steer SST-16 is available, albeit at a higher price bracket. The Poulan Pro PK185H42ST is in between these 2 in both price and quality.

Remember this is just the cost of tractor alone without accessories. Accessories can include lots of different pieces. Just to begin with you can have a cover, a grass collection bag, small and big carts, and much, much more, all of which can add to the price, making it even more important to get a great price at the start. If you’re going to use your tractor only for lawn cropping, and you have got a little farm of one or two acres, you’ll have a peek at the stand-behind mower rather than going for a full on lawn tractor. All the same, look around and in this economy you need to be ready to find some real bargains if you look around.

February 26th, 2010 Nell Harrison No comments

There are many models of Mazda 6 and people try to upgrade its stereo from time to time. There are many generations in this and techniques always like to keep themselves updated with the latest technology. But before selecting the newer versions of radios and replacing, the first step is to remove the former radio. This articles deals on how to remove the radio from Mazda 6. The steps that are given in this article can be worked on with models that were released between the years 2003 and 2008.

This is almost common for the above models and there are some tools that will come handy while doing this task. Pliers, wrench and a screwdriver all of appropriate sizes are some things that are needed.

The things you will be in need are pliers, screw driver and socket wrench. Make sure you have screw drivers of different sizes. If you do not have screw drivers of different size then you may be stuck in the middle. Make sure all these things are ready before starting your work to avoid unnecessary wastage of time.

For removing the gear shift knob rotate it in the counter clockwise direction. After a few rotations you will find the knob loosening; after loosening it remove the gear shift knob. Now remove the console from the car. You will find that the console extends to the ashtray. After removing the console you will find a couple of screws located in the underside of the climate control panel. Remove both the screws by rotating them in counter clockwise direction, with the help of a screw driver.

Next you need to access the radio side-mounting bolt. For gaining this access you need to remove the glove box. Now squeeze the sides of the glove box together so that it drops down. This will reveal the 10 mm bolt on the left side of the glove compartment. Remove this bolt with the help of a socket wrench.

The assembly of the climate control is entirely removed. This panel also includes the middle covers of the air vent. Once this cover is removed, it is turned over and the remaining screws twelve in number that mounts the radio with the air vent and other climate control are removed. When these screws are removed fully, the radio is free to be removed.

The entire assembly containing control and radio is unsnapped. You will find twelve screws once the covers are removed. These screws are removed carefully with appropriate screw drivers. Radio will pop out once the twelve screws are removed. The negative terminal is connected back.

February 26th, 2010 Chris Green No comments

If you are one of the proud owners of a Volvo but you are still not satisfied because of the quality of the radio then continue reading this article. This article will show you how to install a radio in a Volvo. Normally installing an aftermarket radio in a car like Volvo is not very difficult if you manage to buy a radio which is compatible with your car. Hence ensure the compatibility of the radio and the car, to ease your work. By following this step by step procedure you can easily replace the radio of your car by yourself, without seeking any professional help.

Why do we encounter a problem during installation.? Is it because of insufficient knowledge and experience to do this job. The answer is no. The problem arises when we make a wrong choice of stereo for our volvo which gives a series of complications. So our first job is to ensure if we are making a correct purchase. Compatibility needs to be checked. The perfect and matching stereo is not common for all volvo. It may vary from one year to another. Sometimes it may also change with different models.

The first thing that must be done is to buy a car stereo which is compatible. It must be enquired for its compatibility for the model of the car. Generally it will consist of wiring harness and mount of proper size for the stereo. Make a small enquiry about this fact before one stereo is purchased. Once the stereo and the other tools are ready, disconnect the battery of the car. In order to disconnect, remove the negative end that is the black wire with the help of a wrench.

Now locate the negative wire that is connected to the battery. This wire is usually black in color. After finding it, disconnect the wire from the battery. The next step involves removing the centre console from the car. This is done by locating the screw that is holding the console in its place and removing them. After removing the screws, the console can be easily removed.

Then, the former stereo can be pulled from its position and the wirings are removed. Its wiring harness as well as the antenna wire is removed from the rear of this older unit. Then stereo mount is placed and is secured with some clips. In case the stereo that is bought fits in this opening, this step can be neglected.

In the same way wire for antenna also needs to be connected to the rear side of the stereo system. After all these are done the stereo is put into dash.

The last step we should supply power. This can be done by again connecting wire to the battery. The wire is to connected to the negative terminal. This wire will be present usually in black color. The job is done. However it is better to make a final check to see if we have finished installation of new stereo perfectly in our volvo. Just switch on radio. If it plays properly we should pat ourself because we have now become half professional. If it does not work let us not worry . Check if all connections and disconnections are done correctly. The only place where it is little risky top work with is the live wires. So ensure that the battery is switched off.

Follow these simple steps to remove the old radio and install a new radio in your Volvo.

Where Oh Where Can That Tool Chest Be?

February 24th, 2010 Gerald Connor No comments

There is a great deal of work involved in finding that perfect tool chest, but fear not, we are here to help you. We will help you identify the issues involved, and come up with some ideas on how to resolve them.

1) Size and Mobility Considerations. “Bigger is NOT always Better”. If you have a gigantic toolbox, but only a hammer, screwdriver and a wrench…what’s the point? You’re going to be spending forever trying to figure out which drawer they are in, and woe if you have to push that chest around the shop. No… You are much better off getting a chest that will fit the number of tools you own.

2) The Size of the Drawers. As we all know, tools come in various shapes and sizes. Your toolbox needs to be able to fit the tools that you own (or plan to own). That’s simple enough. Tools such as rulers, crowbars and levels tend to be rather narrow, but long. Will the drawers of the toolbox you are considering house them? Be sure to keep the drawer ratings in mind as well.

3) Drawer Slides. Have you ever seen those little rails inside a toolbox? They are the drawer slides, and the actual drawers ride upon them. They need to fit, or the drawers will not run smoothly. Two slides are all you will need if the drawers are shallow. If the drawers are deep then you will need four. Consider the weight rating of the drawer for smooth action. Ball bearing slides are definitely the best you can get…but they are not an absolute must.

4) Consider the Casters. If you are planning on moving that huge toolbox around the shop you will be glad you got one set on casters. Casters need to be of appropriate size. If they are too small, the chest will catch on uneven surfaces and perhaps tip over. 4″ casters are the bare minimum, but 5″ or 6″ are preferred. You should have two locking casters so that the toolbox will not roll all over the shop.

5) Material. You should look for a toolbox that is made from either “Stainless Steel” or “Mild Steel” if you can. They are the two primary choices of material.

6) What About the Warranty? A company that believes in their product will give you a great warranty. If you can get a toolbox that has a lifetime warranty…go for it.

These are the six things that you need to look for when locating that perfect tool chest for your beloved tools.

Want to find out more about that quality tool chest? If so, then visit Gerald Connor’s site on how to choose the best tool chest to house your beloved tools.

The antenna’s jack is connected to HD radio this is in turn connected to the antenna of the car. There is no necessity to connect it to the head of the input of the antenna. The black wire is to be connected to the black port and in the same way a yellow one to the yellow port. This set should be led to the chassis of the car.

Then, the cable which is also known as IP-BUS cable is connected with blue connector, to multi CD player if present. This cable is then connected to head unit. It is connected to blue connector which is found on this head unit. This connector on the radio is actually black in colour.

A cable called the IP – BUS cable is connected with the cable. This is a blue converter. The other end of this is connected to the other end of the head unit. If there is a multi player then one can even fix it to that. The black color in the HD radio indicates the connector’s presence.

HD radio is mounted in the most convenient place in the car. Hook and loop fasteners are used to fix the HD radio under any seat to the car’s carpet. The reason why the radio is fixed under a seat is that the radio is controlled by the head unit in the dash board and not by the radio itself.
