Prepared Your Snow Garage?
If you live in more frigid northern climes, you long ago learned not to fight the precipitation that you have to deal with during the winter months, but rather to treat it as a challenging, but pleasant part of the very way of life in these regions. It does, after all, look very pleasant when you are gazing out the window in front of a roaring fire and certainly helps to make “the holidays” an authentic time of year. However, you do need to take some action to prepare and convert the place to store your cars into a snow garage.
We know that we cannot separate our way of life from the weather we experience during the winter and thus we need to prepare our snow garage so that we can continue to function. Make sure that nothing is stored on the floor level and everything that is important is put upon shelves or in the loft. The next step would be to get some really good absorbent mats, as they will definitely be needed.
As the snow garage is a halfway house between the freezing outdoor area and the welcoming inside of your home, expect to treat it accordingly. You may be able to close the garage door and keep the worst of the weather outside, but a lot of the snow will find its way inside this room. Absorbent mats will capture the snow in this way and help you to control it before it gets too much.
Getting ready for the winter season is a ritual for many of us and while there is some anticipation most of us deal with it in our stride. Have your snow shovels ready, snow blowers to get rid of excess layers and ensure that your winter tires are up for the job. Ideally, get a four-wheel drive vehicle! The snow garage is a place to store all the utensils and is also the place that you make your transition from frigid winter wonderland to inviting house.
Absorbent mats can take care of a lot of the snow that falls off in big clumps from under your vehicle. While the temperature in here will be warmer than the outside, the snow can take a little while to melt. If you don’t have those absorbent mats in place when this happens the room can get very nasty, very quickly. With the mats in place, the melted liquid will, over time, evaporate.
It does not snow every day of the winter season, except, perhaps if you live in the really far north! When the snow clears, all that precipitation will evaporate from the retaining absorbent mats and you can then simply vacuum them when they are dry to get rid of debris.
The snow garage can be converted back to regular use when the season passes, but absorbent mats are equally as important during the summer. Heavy storms can bring a lot of water in when you return from a drive and during the summer you will also have to guard against potential buildup of nasty mildew and mold.
It looks like we’re in for a long, cold and snowy winter. If you have not done so already, now is the time to convert your way of thinking and to fit your snow garage with those absorbent mats.
