Vertical Blinds Are Easy To Install

If you have ever installed horizontal window blinds, you will not have a problem installing vertical blinds. Choosing which you will use, in a particular room, is all about your personal choice. Neither is necessarily better than the other. Vertical blinds have an extra step or two, but that is about the only difference. After you have decided if you are mounting the blinds on the outer or inner side of the window frame, you are ready to move forward.

The first thing you will need to do is measure your window. Again, this is based off your preference of inside or outside window frame. Where you mount the window blinds will be based on your preference, along with the type of window. Take, for example, a sliding glass door. Most likely you will mount those blinds on the outside of the frame. Whereas a standard window you would mount on the inside. Whatever you do, keep track of your measurements; 1-inch can turn this into a headache.

Before you head off to the nearest hardware or decor store, check to make sure you have the essential tools you need for this project. A hammer and nails, pencil, measuring tape, level, and drill bits should get the job done. Again, these are basic tools, but you should check just in case. After all, what if someone ran off with your hammer?

On top of these tools, there are a few things that do come with your window blinds that make installation much easier. Most window blinds will come with a head rail, vanes or louvers, mounting clips, brackets and screws, and valance pieces. Again, you should have to have any of this on hand; they should be in the box.

Now that you have made all of your purchases, it’s time to get started. Star by opening your window blinds and laying out the contents of the box. Go through the instruction manual and make sure you have all the supplies that were supposed to come with the blinds. Then, read through – or even skim – the directions one time to give you an idea of how long this might take, and the order of steps you will be taking.

Now you get to draw on your walls. Measure exactly where you want your mounting brackets to be; mark where each of the holes are for drilling. Take your time here, measure exactly, and make sure everything is level. After all, you do not want to finish your project to find out that the brackets are not even – UGH. Who wants crooked blinds, right?

Move forward with securing the mounting brackets to the wall. Once these are securely fastened, you can secure the head rail. The head rail usually just snaps into place, but the locking mechanism may be a bit tricky. Reading the instructions will tell you exactly how to lock the head rail securely.

Finally, you can start installing the individual louvers – window blinds – onto the head rail. Again, each set of blinds may vary for locking positions, read the directions carefully. You will install these one by one until you have completely installed your vertical blinds. Finishing touches, like cords, will come easy to you at this point. Before you know it you will have functional blinds that added a bit of character to your room.
